Florentino Pérez launched his bid for another term as Real Madrid president on 27 May, with José Mourinho again linked to a Bernabéu return. Benfica are awaiting a definitive decision in the coming weeks.

If Pérez wins the presidency, Mourinho would leave Benfica and return to Madrid.

Record writes that Pérez has an agreement with the Portuguese to take charge if he is re-elected. Rival Enrique Riquelme has made clear Mourinho is not in his plans ahead of the 7 June vote.

The 79-year-old is expected to unveil his electoral programme under the slogan “Muita história por fazer”, with anticipation in Spain that Mourinho could again be tied to the sporting project.

“Do I like Mourinho? I like him a lot,” Pérez said. “I like all coaches. He was with us, he raised our competitiveness and from that moment we won 6 Champions in 10 years. It is not true that I always choose the coaches. We have a director general.” He told El Chiringuito de Jugones.

The Spanish press report Mourinho has already outlined priority positions for possible reinforcements at Real Madrid, requesting centre-backs, full-backs and two midfielders for next season.
