Florentino Pérez has been re-elected Real Madrid president overnight and will serve an eighth term through 2030. The result clears the path for key summer decisions, notably the head coach position.

According to L'Équipe, the 79-year-old spoke shortly before one am, claiming wins across all polling tables and the second-best result in the club’s history, before official totals were released.

Rival Enrique Riquelme conceded after polls put Pérez well ahead, on 60-70% of socios’ votes. The outcome strengthens Pérez’s mandate after 23 years in charge, across 2000-2006 and since 2009.

These elections, which he himself called, were the first since 2009 and served to reassert his authority at the club. The campaign featured sharp exchanges and extravagant promises.

Pérez is expected to confirm José Mourinho’s return to the bench in the coming days, with €15m needed to meet his Benfica release clause. He also said that, if re-elected, Ibrahima Konaté and Inter Milan full-back Denzel Dumfries would join immediately.

He further promised a bid exceeding €150m for an unnamed player. Above all, victory could accelerate his plan to open the club to a minority shareholder, a move Riquelme brands a privatisation, which would require approval at an extraordinary assembly that is expected to follow swiftly now he has been re-elected.
