‘Florentino resign’: Fans mount pressure on Real Madrid president with chants during Levante clash | OneFootball

Real Madrid’s elimination from the Copa del Rey coupled with the defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup wrapped up a very poor week for the club, and the reaction was visible in the stands when they took to the field last night.

As the players made their way onto the field for the game against Levante at the Santiago Bernabeu, they were greeted by loud boos and jeers as the fans did not hold back in making their dissent clear.

While some players were targeted more than others, the club faithful in the stands made it clear to the team that they must do far better than they have been doing in recent weeks. Needless to say, the atmosphere was anything but pleasant despite the win.

President targeted

While the players were at the centre of the criticism on the night, even Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was not spared by the hostile crowd.

In fact, as caught on camera (via RM4Arab), the crowd at the Santiago Bernabeu openly voiced resounding chants calling for his resignation amidst the team’s horrendous run.

“Florentino resign…Florentino resign,” the chants said, as clearly caught on camera.

In fact, the voices were so loud that they reached their intended target – the club president, who was also in attendance for the game. Surprised by the development, Perez was even seen reacting to the fans’ frustration.

“Are they talking about me?” he was seen speaking to those seated around him while laughing.

While Perez’s legacy at the club demands far more respect, it is understandable why the fans voiced their anger at the club president. After all, he too has made some contentious decisions in recent times, the biggest of which was Xabi Alonso’s sacking.

The current term is expected to be his final one as Real Madrid president, but it could well end up being the most difficult of his spells in his current position.
