Florian Miguel, 29, is set to join Metz after travelling to Moselle for a medical and to finalise his contract. It marks a return to France for the former Nîmes defender after five seasons in Belgium and Spain.
According to L'Équipe, the defender will arrive as a free agent, becoming Metz's second such addition as sporting director Frédéric Arpinon shops among out-of-contract players. The club were relegated to Ligue 2 and are targeting an immediate return to the top flight.
Miguel has been unattached since one July when his deal with Burgos, in Spain's second tier, expired. He has 93 Ligue 2 appearances and 58 in Ligue 1, and is expected to take over the left side from Fodé Ballo-Touré, who departed after one season and is represented by the same agency.
Unlike the Senegal international, whose recent years have often been hindered by physical issues, Miguel arrives off two full seasons in Liga 2. He made 80 appearances across two years with Burgos, and previously featured for Louvain in Belgium and Tours.
With Yannis Lawson's future uncertain, competition on the left will come from new professional Tahirys Dos Santos and the experienced Maxime Colin, who can play on either flank.
