Florian Wirtz responds to claims he wants to become Liverpool’s No. 10 | OneFootball

In an Instagram story late on Tuesday, Florian Wirtz responded to claims that he wants to become Liverpool’s No. 10, which is currently worn by Alexis Mac Allister.

This comes after Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg tweeted less than 24 hours earlier that “Florian Wirtz would like to wear the No. 10 shirt at Liverpool. He currently wears it at Leverkusen as well and the No. 17 shirt for Germany.”

It prompted a response from Wirtz, who posted: “Who says I want the No. 10, I respect players. Don’t believe everything what’s written.”

In an annual survey conducted by kicker, 218 Bundesliga players are given different topics to vote for anonymously, including best player. Bayer Leverkusen’s Wirtz was voted as the Bundesliga Player of the Season, receiving 28.2% of the votes for a second season in a row.

Wirtz scored 10 goals and provided 13 assists in 31 Bundesliga games for Bayer Leverkusen under Xabi Alonso last season, but they were unable to retain the league title.
