Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana has no intention of leaving Stamford Bridge this summer despite slipping down the defensive pecking order, according to the Daily Mail.

The centre-back has endured another turbulent campaign, with injuries, poor form and inconsistency hampering his game.

Consequently, his future at the club is under scrutiny ahead of a crucial summer rebuild.

Fofana has not featured since being substituted at half-time during the 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion that prompted the Chelsea hierarchy to sack Liam Rosenior.

The 25-year-old has remained on the bench since then, with Tosin Adarabioyo and Trevoh Chalobah preferred in central defence by interim manager Calum McFarlane.

Chelsea’s defensive struggles this season have placed Fofana under the spotlight. Ousmane Dembele, Anthony Gordon and Beto gave him nightmares.

Chelsea must move on from Fofana

Since joining the Blues in a deal worth up to £75 million in 2022, he has failed to stamp his authority in the rearguard.

He reportedly earns in excess of £200,000 per week and remains contracted until 2029.

Barcelona have been linked with interest, but figures close to Fofana insist he is not actively seeking a move away from Stamford Bridge.

However, Chelsea should seriously consider moving him on.

The Blues cannot continue carrying an injury-prone defender on massive wages when his performances rarely justify the investment.

Even when available, Fofana has looked unreliable defensively, frequently losing his man and struggling in one-on-one situations.

Chelsea’s defensive collapse this season has not been caused by a single player, but Fofana has undoubtedly played a major role alongside Benoit Badiashile and Tosin Adarabioyo.

All three players should be available for transfer this summer, and Chelsea must focus on rebuilding properly.

Mamadou Sarr, Aaron Anselmino and Josh Acheampong are talented prospects who would benefit far more from regular football on loan.

The priority should be bringing in one or two genuinely world-class defenders capable of transforming a fragile back line that has cost Chelsea all season.
