Arrascaeta sustained a grade two calf injury shortly after fracturing his clavicle for Flamengo, prompting fears over his World Cup place.
"He called me in the morning and wrote, 'Amigo, I am out of the World Cup'", said agent Daniel Fonseca, speaking to El Espectador Deportes.
"I asked what he was talking about. I thought he had broken the clavicle again, but it was a calf muscle tear, and we know these are hard to recover from," he added.
Despite the setback, Uruguay have kept the midfielder in their World Cup squad, aiming to have him involved during a tournament that runs to eight matches for the finalists.
"Thank God he remains there. We are confident. He has the capacity to recover quickly, because he is an athlete who recovers fast from the few injuries he has had," Fonseca said.
Uruguay face Saudi Arabia on the 15th of this month at 19:00 Brasília time, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, and Arrascaeta is expected to miss the game.
