Nottingham Forest have received a lift in their pursuit of Givairo Read after Roma ‘pulled out’ of the race to sign the right-back, De Telegraaf reports.

Roma had been in talks with Feyenoord for the 20-year-old but failed to reach agreement, with the Dutch club seeking around €25m and Roma offering €29m largely in add-ons. The Italians are now pursuing Nahuel Molina of Atletico Madrid.

ESPN claims Feyenoord are now asking for €33m, leaving Forest short after an initial £25m offer. That gap would need bridging for any deal.

“It’s not that I think I have to leave now because I’ve learned all I can here, that is certainly not the case.” He told Voetbal International.

“Having said that, I want to consider a transfer if that opportunity arises. You never know how many chances you get in life.”

“If I don’t leave, then I will stay, and I just want to play to win the title here. After that, the Dutch national team is the next step, I hope.”

Forest are viewed as frontrunners for Read’s signature, and there have been claims of a five-year agreement already in place.
