Manchester United need midfield reinforcements this summer, and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson is a potential target.
The Man United target can control proceedings as a number six or drive the game forward in a more box-to-box role, making him a complete package in the engine room.
Anderson has played himself into the England national team and will be a regular starter for the foreseeable future.
But he will not come cheaply. Nottingham Forest are demanding £100-120 million for Anderson, according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg.
Man United face competition for Anderson as Newcastle United are pondering a move to bring him back to Tyneside.
He is a boyhood Newcastle fan who came through the club’s academy. He left only because of the Magpies’ financial situation.
Newcastle feel they can bring him back and will back themselves to convince him to return.
However, Man Utd have the financial muscle to beat the Magpies in the race to sign the 22-year-old.
Lauded as ‘remarkably strong’ by Ange Postecoglou, Anderson would be a massive coup for the Red Devils.
His combination of energy and athleticism will give this Man United midfield the legs it currently lacks, but there is an issue.
Forest’s £100-120 million valuation is steep, and the fee could limit United’s ability to strengthen other key areas.
With multiple midfield reinforcements required next summer, the club must work to bring Forest down on that figure or risk putting all their eggs into one very expensive basket.
