Andoni Iraola has only been in charge of Liverpool for a few months but, it already feels like the Reds are finding their feet again.

The Spaniard's attacking-style of football is exactly what the Reds were missing last season under Arne Slot and, even though only four new players have been brought in, it definitely feels like things are moving upwards.

Alongside many of Liverpool's first-team squad, Ronald Araujo has re-found his best form but, for some of Iraola's men, their performances just haven't been good enough.

Obviously, it's still early days in the season and, there have clearly been plenty of positive signs to emerge from Anfield but, unless they continually improve, they could end up falling behind their rivals.

So, that's why it feels like now could be a good time for Iraola to make a change among his starting XI that has been needed since the start of the 2026-27 season.

Andoni Iraola has to drop Milos Kerkez for Kostas Tsimikas

was one of the many signings that Slot and Richard Hughes made last season.

The left-back was dubbed the Premier League's best left-back before he joined the Reds with fans believing that he could be the perfect successor for Andy Robertson.

However, the Hungarian's in-experience showed through as, towards the end of the campaign, it felt like Robertson had managed to become Liverpool's first-choice left-back again.

But, by that point, it was too late as the Scotsman had already decided on his future and, unfortunately for Liverpool, it lied away from Anfield.

Robertson's exit led fans to believe that a new full-back would be brought in to replace him but, instead, Kostas Tsimikas was welcomed back and found his way into the Reds' first-team squad.

However, since the start of the campaign, Kerkez has been used as the Reds' starting left-back and, if we're being honest, his performances have been rather underwhelming.

In fact, on Wednesday evening, it was his mistake that led to Marcos Llorente's opener and got Liverpool 1-0 behind.

Kerkez's mistakes have become a common occurrence recently which is why it now feels like it's time for Iraola to drop the Hungarian and give Tsimikas a chance to prove his worth.

Obviously, Liverpool only having Tsimikas and Kerkez among their ranks as left-back options is rather worrying.

Neither of the full-backs are world class at the moment and, while Kerkez definitely has the ability to become world-class, his confidence feels like its now at an all time low.

Every move he makes on the pitch seems to lead to him being dispossessed or it allows the opposing team to attack Liverpool's goal.

Obviously, thanks to his pace, he can often catch up with his opponents but, at this moment in time, it feels like he's more of a liability than what Tsimikas would be.

So, even though the Greek Scouser is a relatively forgotten about player at Anfield, he could end up being the perfect solution for them.

The defender's contract is set to expire at the end of the current season so, if he can prove that he has what it takes to still have an impact on Liverpool's first-team, he could even end up saving his Anfield career.
