Former Barcelona midfielder’s continuity for next season in Flick’s staff uncertain | OneFootball

Hansi Flick has recently committed his medium-term future at Barcelona by signing a new contract until 2028, with an option to extend it for another year.

As part of the contract agreement, Hansi Flick will also retain the services of most of his key staff members, including the likes of Marcus Sorg, Toni Tapalovic and Heiko Westermann.

However, there are a few who are still facing an uncertain future at Barcelona. One of them is Thiago Alcantara.

Will Thiago remain at Barcelona?

According to Mundo Deportivo, Thiago has not yet confirmed his continuity as part of Flick’s coaching staff heading into next season.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich midfielder was brought in by Flick during the 2025-26 campaign as a technical assistant, with a specific focus on tactical work with the midfield players and the preparation of training sessions.

His deep understanding of positional play and his experience at the highest level have made him a valuable addition. He is also a key mentor for La Masia graduates.

His situation comes alongside the confirmed departure of analyst Stephan Nopp, who informed the squad he is leaving for personal reasons.

The Frankfurt-born tactical specialist, recruited by Flick in October 2024, had played a key role in match analysis, strategic preparation and in-game corrections using video and statistics.

The core of Flick’s backroom team remains intact. Sorg handles tactical and strategic planning, Tapalovic focuses on squad management and goalkeeping, and Westermann acts as a bridge between the coaching staff and the players.

Fitness chief Julio Tous continues alongside Pepe Conde, Rafa Maldonado and German Fernandez, while goalkeeper coach Jose Ramon de la Fuente also remains.

The one significant question mark heading into the new season, beyond Nopp’s exit, is Thiago.
