Former Barcelona star proves decisive as Cristiano Ronaldo’s Saudi trophy wait goes on | OneFootball

A one-time member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona proved himself key in halting the latest silverware efforts of Real Madrid icon Cristiano Ronaldo on Saturday.

This came as Al-Ahli bested Al-Nassr in the Saudi Arabian Super Cup.

The two sides locked horns a short time ago, in a showcase meeting at the Hong Kong Stadium.

The aforementioned Ronaldo went on to open the scoring in proceedings during the first-half, only to see his strike cancelled out by ex-Barcelona man Franck Kessié on the stroke of the interval.

After Marcelo Brozović restored Al-Nassr’s advantage, it was then the turn of Roger Ibañez to level things up in the game’s dying moments.

From here, the matchup was sent to a penalty shootout, with the likes of Ivan Toney, Riyad Mahrez and that man Kessié having all converted from 12 yards, to secure the Saudi Super Cup for Al-Ahli.
