Just over a month remains before Chelsea and Barcelona face off in the UEFA Champions League – a clash between two of Europe’s heavyweights and one of the most anticipated fixtures of the league phase.
It will be a special moment for all players, to be involved in a blockbuster clash like that, but more so for some stars, such as Marc Cucurella and Marc Guiu, two former La Masia talents now at Chelsea.
Cucurella recently reflected on his time at Barça and how he never regretted leaving Barcelona in order to further his senior career.
Now, in an interview with TV3 (h/t SPORT), Marc Guiu opened up on his decision to leave Barcelona in 2024, despite having a contract offer on the table from the club.
“Honestly, I could have played a little more, but it was clear that the club had other plans. Lewandowski was there, and Vitor Roque had just signed. It was clear that there was no place for me there,” he said.

Guiu, who was handed his first-team debut by Xavi Hernandez, also aimed a subtle dig at Hansi Flick, stating how he had hoped that the German tactician would have spoken to him more apart from a single conversation before his exit.
“The only time I spoke to Hansi Flick, I remember it was in the play-offs and he told me to do well,” noted the Spanish striker.
“The truth is that I would have liked the coach to call me, but he didn’t. In the end, I understood that the situation wasn’t good for me and I decided to leave,” he concluded.
Guiu left Barcelona after making seven first-team appearances, in which he scored two goals.
Since joining Chelsea last year, the 19-year-old centre-forward has played 17 senior matches, bagging six goals in the process.
