Martín Demichelis could soon be returning to the Bundesliga stage. According to media reports from Spain, the former Bayern pro is on the verge of a move to RB Leipzig. An agreement between the Saxon club and the current Mallorca coach is said to have already been reached.

More than a decade after leaving FC Bayern, Martín Demichelis could return to the Bundesliga. As reported by several Spanish media outlets, RB Leipzig is said to have signed the Argentine as their new head coach.

According to these reports, the Saxon club has made a concrete offer to the 45-year-old, which he is said to have accepted. According to Radio Marca Baleares, all that remains is official confirmation from the clubs involved.

Demichelis set for Bundesliga comeback

For Demichelis, this would be his first coaching role in Germany. As a player, however, the former center back is very well known in this country.

Between 2003 and 2011, the Argentine played a total of 259 competitive matches for FC Bayern and won numerous national titles with the Munich club. After retiring as a player, he initially worked in River Plate’s youth system and subsequently gained experience as a head coach in Argentina and Spain.

Just a few weeks ago, Demichelis extended his contract with RCD Mallorca through 2028. However, the contract apparently includes an exit clause that would allow him to move to Leipzig.

The personnel decision is closely tied to the future of Ole Werner. The current RB coach is facing increasing internal criticism.

According to reports from Spain, Leipzig’s management is already advocating for a parting of ways with the 38-year-old. Despite finishing third in the last Bundesliga season, the team’s on-field performance is said to have fallen short of expectations.

Demichelis is therefore considered the management’s top choice for a fresh start.

For German soccer fans, the return of the former Bayern star would undoubtedly be an exciting development.

Demichelis knows the Bundesliga inside out from his playing days and has a clear footballing profile. Already at River Plate and later at Mallorca, he relied on an attacking, possession-based style of play with high intensity when defending.

This very approach fundamentally aligns with the philosophy RB Leipzig has been pursuing for years.
