Former Cardiff City striker Sory Kaba scored the only goal of the game as OH Leuven beat Antwerp on the final day of the regular season in the Belgian Pro League. The Guinean forward made it nine goals for the season and with that victory ensured that OH Leuven would not be playing in the relegation play-offs. Instead, they will be fighting it out with Genk, Westerlo, Standard Liege, Charleroi and Antwerp for a shot at European football.
Kaba joined OH Leuven on a free transfer back in September, having left Las Palmas in Spain. Kaba played for OH Leuven back in the 2021/2022 season on loan from Danish side FC Midtjylland. He scored 12 goals in 29 games for the side, and just a few months later joined Welsh side Cardiff City. In 17 games for Cardiff City the now 30-year-old scored eight goals in 17 games. He only left FC Midtjylland in 2023 to join Las Palmas, yet he struggled to show the form he had shown previously with OH Leuven and Cardiff City. After just two goals in 20 games he joined Elche on loan, where he scored only four goals in 27 games. Kaba is OH Leuven’s top scorer so far in the Pro League this season with six goals.
While OH Leuven will be happy to avoid the bottom four, a side with their infrastructure and financial backing should be doing a lot better than languishing at the bottom of the Pro League table year on year.
