Former England, Liverpool and Newcastle great Kevin Keegan dies aged 75 | OneFootball

Kevin Keegan, former England manager and a Liverpool and Newcastle great, has died aged 75 after cancer. He revealed his diagnosis in January and said in June it had reached stage four.

His family said in a statement that he died with his wife and daughters by his side.

A two-time Ballon d'Or winner, Keegan won three English titles and a European Cup with Liverpool, making 323 appearances and scoring 100 goals. He later lifted the German crown with Hamburg in 1979.

As Newcastle United manager from 1992 to 1997, then briefly in 2008, he won the 1992/93 second tier title in his first full season.

That first spell also brought his famous post-match address after a win at Leeds in 1996, during a close but ultimately unsuccessful title race with Manchester United.

He faced Leeds more than any other side as a player, winning 17 of 25 meetings and scoring 10 times. He was sent off in the 1974 Charity Shield after a confrontation with Billy Bremner.

In 2021 he visited Elland Road as an ambassador for Leeds-based firm BigChange, reflecting that the stadium evoked powerful memories and that he used to check for Norman Hunter in the tunnel. Being Doncaster-born, trips there carried extra meaning for him.
