Simone Inzaghi has spoken more on why he left Inter Milan, revealing that the relentless pressure of management at the Nerazzurri had become too heavy a burden, and that money had nothing to do with his decision to move to Al Hilal.

The former Inter coach spoke to Libertà di Piacenza in a wide-ranging interview.

Addressing topics including the Italy job speculation and the real reasons behind his departure from San Siro.

“I wanted to try a completely new experience in a completely new environment,” he said, with quotes via L’Interista.

“The years at Inter were very satisfying professionally but also very stressful. I felt the need to experience high-level football again while disconnecting from a weight of pressure that had become too heavy.”

On the suggestion that financial reward was the primary driver, Inzaghi was equally clear.

“I left Italian football for a series of reasons, but certainly not for money. Earning a lot is obviously pleasant, but other considerations pushed me here. I did not need money, fortunately.”

He also expressed sadness over Italy’s World Cup absence, the third consecutive tournament the Azzurri have missed.

“It pains me tremendously that Italy will not be at the World Cup for the third time in a row. My brother won a World Cup. I am sure Italian football will recover very soon.”

On the Italy head coach speculation linking him to the role, Inzaghi was measured.

“I am flattered to have been mentioned for that position, but as I have said, I am well here and have another year on my contract with Al Hilal.”
