Barcelona prepare for a defining run of fixtures against Atletico Madrid, former Barça youth team coach Garcia Pimienta has offered a detailed and insightful take on what could separate the two sides.

The Catalan tactician, who previously worked with Barcelona’s youth setup and later managed clubs like Las Palmas and Sevilla, knows exactly what it takes to succeed within the club’s demanding structure.

Now speaking in an interview with MARCA, Pimienta turned his attention to the ongoing three-game sequence between Barcelona and Atletico, a series that has already begun with a 2-1 victory for the Catalans and will continue in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

Setting the tone for what lies ahead, Pimienta stressed just how significant this matchup could become, saying,

“I think it’s going to be one of those matchups that will be remembered,” he began.

While acknowledging the balance between the sides, Pimienta pointed to one decisive factor that could ultimately determine the outcome.

“I believe that if Barça can finish their chances, they usually come out on top.”

Praise for Flick

Pimienta also took time to praise the work of Hansi Flick, who has made his mark since taking charge at Barcelona.

Highlighting the German manager’s impact and ability to adapt, he said, “What he’s doing is incredible.”

Expanding on that idea, he explained the importance of harmony between coach and philosophy, stating,

“Barça is a special club; if you don’t believe in a certain way, it’s going to be difficult.”

He then pointed to what he sees as the clearest sign of Flick’s success so far – the players’ response, adding,

“You can see that the players follow him and believe in him,” he concluded.
