Former Leeds United and Chelsea owner Ken Bates has died aged 94.

Chelsea said in a statement that he died peacefully in Monaco on Saturday morning, surrounded by his wife and family.

News of his death emerged on Saturday afternoon.

The statement offered condolences to his wife, Suzannah, and to his family and friends.
