Former Liverpool manager Arne Slot is the leading candidate to become the next head coach of AC Milan, according to Sky Sports Switzerland journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

Liverpool parted with Slot earlier today, with Andoni Iraola the favourite to replace him at the Anfield club.

However, it appears Slot will not be out of work for long, with Milan in talks to appoint him.

The seven-time Champions League winners had Reds target Iraola on their radar but are now keen on appointing the recently-sacked Liverpool boss.

Milan sacked Massimiliano Allegri earlier this week following the club’s failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League after they finished fifth in the Serie A.

Slot also led Liverpool to a fifth-place finish in the Premier League, but it was enough to get them a place in the elite European competition.

He won the league title with the Merseyside club in 2024-25 after replacing Jurgen Klopp, but performances in 2025-26 were woeful and underwhelming.

Slot appeared to have fallen out with Mohamed Salah, with the Liverpool hero recently taking to social media to criticise his style of play.

He joined the Reds from Feyenoord in 2024 and will now look to add the Italian top-flight title to his feathers if appointed as Milan manager having also won the Eredivisie.

Slot has already said goodbye to Liverpool fans and is looking forward to the next challenge.

He will not be short of suitors across Europe should a move to Milan fall through, and he will be keen to prove himself elsewhere and win the Champions League.
