Championship outfit Wrexham approached Eriksen in July, but he turned down their proposal.

Bayer Leverkusen had also been linked with Eriksen, but he is now on the verge of joining Wolfsburg.

Eriksen has agreed terms with the German club, with a medical and the signing of his contract remaining before the move becomes official.

The Denmark international joined United as a free agent in 2022. He made 107 appearances during his three-year spell, bagging eight goals and 19 assists.

He was a regular member of the first team in his debut campaign and played a pivotal role in helping the team win the 2022-23 League Cup.

Kobbie Mainoo’s emergence reduced his game time the following season, but he still made 28 appearances across all competitions.

Eriksen’s role further diminished in 2024-25, with manager Ruben Amorim deciding he was unsuited to his favoured 3-4-2-1 formation.

United decided not to renew his contract at the end of last season, and he left Old Trafford as a free agent.

Eriksen is now close to joining Wolfsburg. His experience and leadership qualities will be useful to the Bundesliga outfit.
