Igor Tudor is reportedly set to leave his interim role at Tottenham Hotspur, with Chris Hughton among those in the frame before the trip to Sunderland on Sunday, April 12. TeamTalk reports Tudor is expected to depart by mutual consent after weeks of internal talks, and that Adi Hutter and Hughton are on a shortlist to replace him.
Tudor took over after Thomas Frank’s departure last month, but his start has been bleak. His first match brought a 4-1 home loss to Arsenal, and he is winless in five Premier League games, the only point coming in a 1-1 draw at Liverpool.
Spurs beat Atletico Madrid 3-2 at home in the Champions League last 16 second leg, yet went out after a 5-2 first-leg loss in Spain. Any momentum vanished with Sunday’s 3-0 home loss to fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest, leaving Spurs one point and one place above the drop zone.
The report added there was an internal pact to act if Forest won, and that Tudor is ready to step aside following the death of his father, Mario.
Hughton made over 300 Spurs appearances, then spent 14 years on the staff as reserve and first-team coach, caretaker and assistant. He left in February 2008 to join Newcastle as first-team coach, later taking the job permanently after an interim spell. He remains the last manager to win a home Tyne-Wear derby for Newcastle, in October 2010.
