Former Rangers star Scott Arfield is in talks with Livingston over remaining at the club in a player-coach role.

Arfield took over as interim boss of Livi for the final three games of the Scottish Premiership campaign.

The ex-Ger signed a short-term deal as a player at Livingston in the winter transfer window earlier this year.

He faced Rangers in the Scottish Premiership twice this season, on both occasions for Falkirk, and was not involved when Livingston hosted the Gers in February.

Now Arfield is in discussions with Livingston to extend his playing career, but also take further steps into coaching.

Livi said in a statement: “Discussions are currently ongoing with Scott regarding a potential combined player-coach role for the 2026/27 season.

“These conversations have been positive, and we hope to be in a position to provide a further update in the near future.”

Livingston are currently fielding applications for a new manager and revealed they have had a ‘significant level of interest’ in the position.

Arfield made 233 appearances for Rangers across all competitions during his time at Ibrox, scoring 43 times and providing 19 assists.

He was part of the Rangers squad that scooped up the Scottish Premiership title under Steven Gerrard.

Rangers will likely keep a close eye on the 37-year-old’s move into the coaching sphere, with progression sure to have him on the radar for roles at Ibrox in the coming years.

While Livingston are to have change in the dugout this summer, it is unclear if Rangers will stick with Danny Rohl.

The German is under major pressure after presiding over a complete collapse in the post split fixtures which quickly ruled Rangers out of the title race and saw them finish third.

He also had a bust-up with James Tavernier, denying the club captain an opportunity to make a final playing appearance at Ibrox.

Inside Futbol looked at the incident and how it exposed Rohl’s lack of experience, also casting doubt upon his man-management skills.
