Yet there is a sceptical voice muttering in the background. Can this model keep working, or is Miami slowly becoming an All-Star exhibition side instead of a balanced football team. Busquets is bowing out gracefully, Messi remains unplayable when motivated, but how many thirty-something legends can one team accommodate before the hunger fades. At least Reguilon offers energy rather than nostalgia.

From a Premier League perspective, it is hard not to feel a twinge of disappointment. Reguilon may not have become the dominant full back Spurs hoped for, but he is still capable of contributing at a high level. Some clubs in England could do with a mobile, attack-minded defender.
