Reguilon Weighs Inter Miami Switch After Spurs Exit

Former Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon is edging closer to one of the most glamorous free transfers of the year, holding talks to team up with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami. Credit to The Mail for revealing the discussions. At 28, and without a club since leaving Spurs in the summer, Reguilon has explored options in England, Europe and Saudi Arabia, yet the lure of Florida appears strongest.

Beckham Factor Driving Talks

Inter Miami, co-owned by David Beckham, continues to build a retirement home with bite. Messi, Luis Suarez and Jordi Alba have already brought Barcelona flair to Major League Soccer, creating an environment that “should suit Spain international Reguilon if talks continue to progress.” One source close to negotiations suggested, “He wants to enjoy his football again, and Miami offers that balance of competition and lifestyle.”

Playoff Push Adds Temptation

Miami recently beat New England 4-1 in an emotional farewell for Sergio Busquets who “is retiring at the end of their season.” They currently sit third in the Eastern Conference with 59 points from 32 games and have already secured playoff football. Reguilon could arrive just in time for a silverware chase.

This would be another outrageous recruitment move from Inter Miami. As a football fan watching MLS evolve into a magnet for global stars, the idea of Reguilon overlapping down the left while threading passes into Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez is pure box office. No wonder supporters in the United States are buzzing at the thought of another high-profile arrival.

Yet there is a sceptical voice muttering in the background. Can this model keep working, or is Miami slowly becoming an All-Star exhibition side instead of a balanced football team. Busquets is bowing out gracefully, Messi remains unplayable when motivated, but how many thirty-something legends can one team accommodate before the hunger fades. At least Reguilon offers energy rather than nostalgia.

From a Premier League perspective, it is hard not to feel a twinge of disappointment. Reguilon may not have become the dominant full back Spurs hoped for, but he is still capable of contributing at a high level. Some clubs in England could do with a mobile, attack-minded defender. If he chooses Miami over Europe, it says everything about where modern football’s gravitational pull lies. Entertainment over expectation.
