Hebburn Town have invited former Sunderland and Middlesbrough academy goalkeepers to train as they gear up for a first National League North season.

According to Sunderland Echo, coach Carl Morris put Callum Dobson, Sam Taylor and Josh Skelton through their paces at the weekend, joined by Dan Cameron and Nathan Fisher.

The Hornets, promoted as Northern Premier League Premier Division champions 12 months after a bottom-half finish, have already added Tom Allan, Elliot Forbes and Jake Charles.

Cameron, 20, an Academy of Light product, had loans at the Trustmark Group Stadium late in 2024/25 and again last season before Sunderland recalled him in March. He finished the campaign with National League side Boston, and leaves later this month after his release was confirmed.

Fisher, 21, has also been released by Middlesbrough. He joined from Sunderland’s academy in summer 2021 and featured alongside Sonny Finch and Isaac Fletcher.

There is no indication Hebburn are pursuing either keeper. Morris said bringing in full-time professionals benefits the group and gives younger players a clear view of training standards.

Manager Daniel Moore wants extra competition for Dobson and is exploring a loan return for Sunderland youngster Isaac Allan. He thinks Allan has every chance of a strong career and could reach a very high level, citing his attitude, calmness, ability, mentality and confidence. If a deal cannot be struck, Moore hopes Allan steps up to the National League or the EFL and believes he could have a successful EFL career.
