Former Sunderland and Middlesbrough keepers train with Hebburn Town before historic season | OneFootball

According to Sunderland Echo, former Sunderland and Middlesbrough academy goalkeepers have been training with Hebburn Town as the club prepares for its first season in National League North, the second tier of the non-league game.

The Hornets held off FC United of Manchester and Hednesford Town to win the Northern Premier League Premier Division, only 12 months after a bottom-half finish.

Manager Daniel Moore has moved quickly, adding former Newcastle forward Tom Allan, Darlington midfielder Elliot Forbes and Whitby Town striker Jake Charles.

Goalkeeper coach Carl Morris led a session for Callum Dobson, Sam Taylor and Josh Skelton, joined by Academy of Light product Dan Cameron and Middlesbrough’s Nathan Fisher.

Cameron, 20, had loans at the Trustmark Group Stadium in 2024/25 and again last season. Sunderland recalled him in March and he ended the campaign at National League club Boston. His release takes effect this month.

Fisher, 21, has been released by Middlesbrough. He joined from Sunderland’s academy in summer 2021 and featured on Teesside alongside Sonny Finch and Isaac Fletcher.

There is no indication Hebburn are considering moves for either. Morris said the sessions help younger goalkeepers see full-time standards and he is open to inviting players in.

Moore has indicated he wants extra competition for Dobson and is exploring a loan return for Sunderland youngster Isaac Allan. He thinks Allan could reach a high level and, if a deal is not possible, hopes he gets National League or EFL minutes.
