Former Sunderland centre-back Jack Baldwin has signed for Hornchurch after leaving Colchester United.
The 32-year-old, who has also played for Hartlepool United, Peterborough United, Bristol Rovers, Ross County and Northampton Town, moves to the Urchins ahead of the new season. According to Sunderland Echo, Hornchurch say they fought off interest from EFL and National League clubs to secure his signature. He has made more than 280 EFL appearances.
Baldwin joined Sunderland from Peterborough United in the summer of 2018 on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee after the Black Cats’ relegation to League One.
He made 42 appearances and scored three goals, his first in a 2-1 win over Bradford City in October 2018. He left Wearside in the summer of 2020.
Hornchurch manager Daryl McMahon called Baldwin a strong addition, pointing to the levels he has played at and the teams he has represented. He said the defender is hungry to play and can help improve the team on and off the pitch.
McMahon also described him as a leader and organiser, a competitive footballer who is warmly welcomed ahead of the campaign.
