Dan Neil is reportedly in talks with Rangers, with former Sunderland striker Kevin Kyle backing the move and saying he would be a great addition for the Ibrox club.
Neil, a Sunderland Academy of Light graduate, captained the club and featured in their recent promotions. After a busy summer of signings, his minutes were limited early last season, and he joined Ipswich Town on loan in January to see out the campaign and his Sunderland contract.
“I would go regularly to watch Sunderland three, four times a year. And I remember when Dan Neil broke into the first team, he was the next big thing that the Sunderland fans had expectations for. So he took the move to Ipswich and he's done well at Ipswich.”
He told Go Radio.
“For me, he's a very, very good footballer, and he would be a welcome addition to Rangers. I've seen him up close and he's a hardworking, technical, good midfielder. He's tenacious in the midfield, gets about, keeps things simple.”
Neil will be a free agent this summer. Coventry City have been linked with him, while Rangers are viewed as leading contenders to sign the midfielder.
