For a team that has long sought to shake off its reputation of falling short in big moments, this latest setback was a painful reminder of past failures.

Spurs supporters had reason to believe their side could hold their own, but what unfolded on the pitch told a different story.

With their place in a cup final on the line, Tottenham’s lack of fight was alarming, and Redknapp’s post-match comments reflected the growing frustration among supporters.

Tottenham arrived at Anfield with a slender lead from the first leg, thanks to a crucial goal from Lucas Bergvall.

Ange Postecoglou’s men started the match well, frustrating Liverpool in the early exchanges.

However, their resilience crumbled as Cody Gakpo equalised on aggregate, opening the floodgates for the home side.

The second half was a complete collapse. A Mohamed Salah penalty shifted the momentum firmly in Liverpool’s favour before Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk added further misery.

Spurs failed to register a single shot on target in a match that required a bold response.

Liverpool will now face Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final, while Tottenham must regroup quickly as they turn their attention to the FA Cup and Europa League for a chance at silverware.

Tottenham fall without putting up a fight

Former Tottenham player Jamie Redknapp delivered a scathing assessment of Spurs' performance, criticising the lack of leadership and intensity from the senior players.

"From Tottenham's perspective, I cannot remember a team in my lifetime go down with less of a fight than they did tonight," he said to Football London.

"Not having one shot on target in the semi-final second-leg, when you're trying to change the course of your history - I feel sorry for those young players."

He particularly criticised the senior players for failing to support Tottenham’s young talents, stating: "Archie Gray and Bergvall, they're trying their best but the senior players, I'd be looking at them to lead you to make sure you set the right tempo, they didn't do that.
