Fortaleza face Corinthians amid good form, aiming to stay on track

Corinthians will face Fortaleza on Wednesday night (3rd), at 7:00 PM (Brasília time), at Arena Castelão, in a match valid for the 37th round of the Brazilian Championship. The opposing team comes into the match in good form in the competition and looking to escape the relegation zone.

Fortaleza enters this Wednesday's clash occupying 18th place in the Brasileirão, with ten wins, ten draws, and 16 losses in 36 rounds played, totaling 40 points, six fewer than Corinthians, who are in 9th place with 12 wins, ten draws, and 14 losses, totaling 46 points.

The team from Ceará comes into the match with four absences, two of them being goalkeepers João Ricardo and Helton Leite, in addition to left-back Bruno Pacheco and midfielder Lucca Prior.

With that, a possible starting lineup for Leão is: Brenno, Mancuso, Brítez, Gastón Ávila, Diogo Barbosa; Pierre, Lucas Sasha, Pochettino; Herrera, Breno Lopes, and Adam Bareiro.

Corinthians' opponent comes into the match on an eight-game unbeaten streak, with the last three being victories: 3-2 over Bahia, 1-0 over Red Bull Bragantino, and 1-0 over Atlético-MG. Fortaleza's last defeat was on October 18th, in the 29th round of the Brasileirão, when they lost 1-0 to Cruzeiro at Mineirão.

Law of the Former Player

Tonight's match has only one candidate for the Law of the Former Player: 27-year-old midfielder Matheus Pereira.

A product of Corinthians' youth academy, Matheus Pereira was promoted to the professional squad at age 17. Even though he was seen as a club prospect, he played only three matches for the main team, all in 2015, which earned him participation in that season's Brazilian Championship title.

In 2016, the midfielder left Corinthians after being transferred to Empoli, in Italy. After that, he played for Juventus, also in Italy, as well as Bordeaux in France, Paraná Clube, Dijon again in France, and Barcelona B and Eibar, both in Spain, before arriving at Fortaleza.
