Kashiwa Reysol secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Shonan Bellmare in their J1 League Round 11 clash at Shonan's home ground on Sunday.
Both sides approached the match with three-at-the-back formations – Shonan employing a 3-1-4-2 system while Kashiwa opted for a 3-4-1-2 setup. The tactical battle was evident throughout, with both teams focusing on midfield control and wide areas.
The first half ended goalless despite chances at both ends, with Kashiwa having a goal disallowed after VAR detected a handball. The deadlock was finally broken in the 48th minute when Yuki Kakita converted from Masaki Watai's assist to give the visitors what proved to be the decisive goal.
Shonan Bellmare dominated the set-piece count with 13 corners but failed to convert any into meaningful chances. They registered 15 shots (3 on target, 6 off target, 6 blocked) and maintained 51% possession with an 81% pass completion rate.
Kashiwa Reysol were more efficient with their opportunities, recording 13 shots (4 on target, 4 off target, 5 blocked). Their pass completion rate was slightly better at 85%, despite having marginally less possession at 49%.
Kashiwa's defensive unit was particularly impressive, with Taiyo Koga earning a 7.5 rating after completing 73 passes and contributing 3 tackles and 3 interceptions. Hayato Tanaka was also solid in defence with a 7.3 rating.
For Shonan, goalkeeper Naoto Kamifukumoto made three saves in a steady performance, while defenders Koki Tachi and Junnosuke Suzuki both earned 7.2 ratings for their defensive efforts.
Shonan's approach featured heavy use of set-pieces and wing play, but they lacked the cutting edge in the final third despite creating several opportunities. Their 13 corners yielded no goals, highlighting their finishing problems.
Kashiwa's organised defensive structure proved difficult to break down, with their back three providing a solid foundation. Ricardo Rodríguez's side has conceded just once this season, and their defensive solidity was again evident in this match.
The result continues contrasting fortunes for both sides. Shonan have managed just one win in their last five matches, while Kashiwa maintain their impressive form with only one defeat this season.
The J1 League remains incredibly competitive, with just four points separating the top 11 positions before this match. Kashiwa's win strengthens their position in the top five, while Shonan remain in mid-table.
Shonan's "Bellmare Food Park" was in full swing on match day, featuring 26 food stalls showcasing local cuisine. The event attracted supporters and visitors, creating a vibrant atmosphere despite the home team's defeat.
Various pre-match activities included the "Road to Victory" player bus arrival ceremony, exhibition matches, and special talk sessions, making it a family-friendly occasion beyond just the football.
Shonan Bellmare recently signed a new official club partnership agreement with Hiratsuka City, strengthening their community ties. The club continues to engage in social activities through their "Sharen!" initiative, including agricultural experiences and other community contributions.
For Kashiwa, midfielder Koki Kumasaka has been a revelation this season. Standing at 185cm, his ball-winning abilities and wide range of play have earned him a regular starting spot. The return of Hayato Nakama has also injected energy into the team in both attack and defence.
