Fortuna Düsseldorf have signed Philipp Förster on a free transfer, adding Bundesliga experience to a midfield rebuilding after relegation to Germany’s third tier.
According to Get German Football News, the 31-year-old has agreed a one-year deal to June 2027 and will wear the No. 10 shirt.
Förster arrives from Karlsruher SC after 27 appearances and four assists last season. He previously made his Bundesliga debut for VfB Stuttgart in October 2020 after helping them win promotion.
Under Pellegrino Matarazzo he featured centrally, out wide and as a supporting runner, then left for Bochum in 2022 after 76 competitive appearances for VfB with eight goals and seven assists.
His first Bochum season brought a goal and two assists in a 3-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. He also scored in a 5-2 victory over Hoffenheim and opened the scoring against Bayer Leverkusen on the final day as survival was secured.
A technically secure, industrious midfielder rather than a classic No. 10, he often operated with Kevin Stöger as one of two advanced central midfielders supporting Bochum’s attack while maintaining structure. He leaves the top two divisions with 83 Bundesliga appearances and eight goals, plus 137 second-tier outings and 16 goals.
Sporting director Samir Arabi believes Förster’s left foot and creativity can make a decisive difference. His experience of promotion races and survival battles could prove valuable as Düsseldorf target an immediate return to the second tier.
