Fortuna Sittard beat Groningen 3-2 at Euroborg on Friday, a result that drops the hosts from second to sixth in the Eredivisie table.

Mohammed Ihattaren opened the scoring in the 12th minute, finishing a break set up by Lequincio Zeefuik. David van der Werff levelled (19.) from Jorg Schreuders' pass, before Zeefuik restored the visitors' lead with a composed finish from Edouard Michut's through ball (28.).

After the restart, Thom van Bergen headed against the post and Mattijs Branderhorst denied him from close range. Anthony Descotte then stretched the advantage with a strike from outside the box (72.), again teed up by Michut.

Groningen's late push included a VAR check that brought no penalty. Justin Hubner turned into his own net (87.) to set up a frantic finish, but Fortuna Sittard held firm.

Groningen had 22 attempts and 67.6% of possession but hit the target only twice. Fortuna Sittard registered nine attempts, finding the target five times.
