Early setbackIn front of 5,125 fans at the Stadion am Brentanobad, Niko Arnautis’s side got off to the worst possible start. In just the fourth minute, Lina Altenburg in the Eintracht goal misread the flight of a Lisa Heiseler corner and the ball sailed directly into the back of the net. Chance for Freigang Despite going behind, Eintracht took control of the match and on the quarter-hour mark, Rebecka Blomqvist played an inch-perfect square pass across the penalty area for Laura Freigang to run onto, but her first-time shot from eight metres out was saved by Cara Bösl. Campbell doubles the leadIn the 24th minute, Eileen Campbell dribbled her way into a good position to shoot and then picked her spot from the edge of the area, side-footing home into the bottom left-hand corner to make it 2-0 for the visitors.
Freigang at the doubleEintracht Women were desperate to get a foothold back in the match and by half-time, they had pulled themselves level. In the 35th minute, Freigang slotted home from just inside the box to halve the deficit, then weaved her way to the edge of the six-yard box seven minutes later before prodding in the equaliser. In time added on, Freigang had another couple of chances to give her side the lead but it was not to be, and the teams went into the break level at 2-2.
Impressive second halfEintracht Frauen came back out of the changing rooms all guns blazing, putting their opponents under huge pressure and quickly establishing a 4-2 lead.
Gräwe from distanceIn the 49th minute, Lisanne Gräwe tried her luck from a long way out and saw the ball slip under Bösl’s handed to make it 3-2. Reuteler provides breathing roomSix minutes later, Blomqvist squared the ball for Geraldine Reuteler, who fired home into the bottom right-hand corner for a 4-2 lead (55’). Reuteler then hit the bar in the 70th minute, leaving the match in a 4-2 win for the home side and securing European football for Eintracht Women for the fifth season in a row.
