Manchester United will be without four injured defenders for Friday’s visit to Chelsea, Ruben Amorim has confirmed.

Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Ayden Heaven, and Diogo Dalot are all set to stay behind as United head to Stamford Bridge, though Amorim is hopeful they will be available for selection ahead of next week’s Europa League final against Tottenham.

Spurs are not without injury issues, though, today confirming that key playmaker Dejan Kulusevski has undergone knee surgery and will be out until next season. That will be a small consolation for Amorim, though, as he remains in the dark regarding his defenders’ fitness.

Asked for an update on Yoro, Heaven, and De Ligt’s fitness, the Portuguese said: “I don't know if they are going to be available [for the Europa League final].

“We are going to push, because it is a final and all the players want to play that really bad.

“I think they will not go to Chelsea, but we have a possibility to have some of them in the final.”

Dalot is less likely to feature - he had been a fixture at full-back this campaign, but has been absent with a calf injury since late April. Amorim said he would not rush his return, prioritising the player’s long-term fitness as he looks to avoid a recurring injury.

He continued, saying the player is pushing for a quicker recovery: “Dalot is trying really hard, but I don't want to risk [him].

“When you start getting one injury, second injury, it is a big thing, and we cannot have these kinds of problems in our squad.”

Dalot added that his recovery was going well, but acknowledged the tight timeframe he is facing.

“[I am] feeling good, feeling better,” said the Portuguese full-back. “At this stage, we go day by day to see how we go, but so far, so good.

“[I am working] really hard. You can imagine how much I want to be back as soon as possible, so I am pushing myself to be available.”
