Andoni Iraola has got a massive task on his hands now that he's the Liverpool manager.

Not only will he have much more media spotlight on him but, after finishing fifth in the Premier League, fans will be expecting a massive improvement.

Of course, as long as his players don't end up getting injured all the time like this season, they'll be in a much better place.

But, without welcoming some new faces to his ranks, there's not a chance that the Anfield outfit will be anywhere close to winning the Champions League or the Premier League.

Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate all need to be replaced and, although there have been some rumours over the last few months, nothing has been confirmed.

That is, until this latest update emerged from Anfield.

Sky Sports confirm that Liverpool could look at signing at least four players this summer

Even though Liverpool spent over £450 million last summer, they still need to upgrade their team in several areas.

Several members of their first-team squad have already left and, with others such as Joe Gomez and Federico Chiesa still not entirely sure about their futures, there's going to be a fair few gaps for them to plug.

The Reds' attack and defence and their two most important areas that need an upgrade, especially if they want to start competing for silverware again.

And, now that Iraola is in charge, the rumour mill is likely to go into overdrive with Sky Sports journalist Vinnie O'Connor sharing his thoughts on what lies ahead for Liverpool this summer.

"The appointment of a new head coach is going to be supplemented by activity in the transfer market," he said.

"They want pace in the wide areas. That was something Liverpool were always looking to recruit and Iraola fits the bill with his style of management.

"It is very similar to what Jurgen Klopp delivered and more intense than what Arne Slot delivered.

"The fact they registered interest in [Yan] Diomande shows that this evolution isn't just down to a managerial appointment.

"Arguably they need another number six to take some of the workload off of Ryan Gravenberch. Play two sixes at times, that's certainly the way Iraola likes to play.

"You could argue they need to bring in more experience at centre-half to supplement the fact that [Jeremy] Jacquet will be 21 when the Premier League kicks off. [Giovanni] Leoni is also here.

"Whether they need to perhaps bring in another centre forward to back up the fact that [Hugo] Ekitike is still going to be out for a while. We know the injury problems Alexander Isak have had too. We expect Liverpool to move and we anticipate they have the cash to do so."

Andoni Iraola needs to hit the ground running as soon as possible this summer

The 2026 World Cup is likely to postpone Liverpool's pre-season plans but that doesn't mean Iraola can't get straight to business.

The Spaniard is a product of Marcelo Bielsa and Ernesto Valverde, both of which demanded as much as humanly possible from their players.

And, thanks to the way he was taught to play by them both, Iraola is the same.

If he doesn't hit the ground running and the Reds get off to a slow start, fans could end up doubting the Spaniard's vision which could lead to their players not performing to the best of their ability.

Iraola needs to get the senior players such as Virgil van Dijk and Alisson on his side and, if he can integrate some of the youngsters into his plans, he could be exactly what Liverpool need.

However, with the number of changes Liverpool are likely to make this summer, it's going to be a big ask, especially since the Spaniard is stepping up from Bournemouth to Liverpool.
