Barcelona have a mountain to climb tonight, and there is no hiding from that reality.
A four-goal deficit against Atletico de Madrid is not the kind of situation you recover from with small adjustments.
It demands a near-perfect performance, mental bravery and, above all, the right starting XI.
With injuries and suspensions limiting options, Flick does not have the luxury of rotation.
This is why he must find the perfect balance between defensive stability and attacking aggression.
Barcelona need goals, several of them, but they cannot afford to concede. That balance will be defined by the XI he sends onto the pitch.
Should he prioritise experience at the back to handle Atletico’s physical threat? Or does he lean into attacking full-backs to overload wide areas?
Does he trust a natural striker to lead the line, or does he opt for fluid movement and creativity with a false nine?
On that note, here we take a look at four ways Flick could lineup his Barcelona players for the Atletico clash

This would be the most obvious XI Flick might opt against Atletico Madrid.
This line-up keeps things relatively stable.
Joan Garcia continues in goal, while only Jules Kounde and Pau Cubarsi have the luxury of being the only guarantees in the starting XI.
The first option for Flick to consider is using Gerard Martin as Cubarsi’s partner, with Alejandro Balde offering width from left-back.
This selection has worked for Barcelona in previous matches and could once again be the key.
In midfield, Marc Bernal and Pedri form the double pivot, where the former will provide defensive balance, allowing Pedri to dictate the rhythm.
Ahead of them, Lamine Yamal, Fermin Lopez and Raphinha supply creativity and direct running, while Ferran Torres will lead the line.
This XI prioritises familiarity and control. It does not radically change the system but relies on intensity and sharper execution.
The risk, however, lies in whether Ferran can deliver the cutting edge required on a night that demands goals.

In this XI, experience will take over.
Here, Ronald Araujo replaces Gerard Martin in central defence.
Against Atletico’s physical presence, Araujo’s strength and aerial dominance could be decisive.
This would sacrifice some defensive solidity but inject far greater creativity into the centre of the pitch.
Olmo’s ability to carry the ball and break lines could help Barcelona progress play quicker — something they struggled with in the first leg.
The attacking trio behind Ferran remains unchanged, meaning Flick keeps width and pace. This version feels more attacking without being reckless.
At the same time, it does have a vulnerability to expose the midfield, something that Flick will want to avoid.

Dani Olmo, as a false 9, could unlock serious creativity.
This could arguably be the boldest tactical tweak.
Joao Cancelo starts at left-back, offering much more attacking thrust than Balde. His ability to invert and operate almost as a midfielder gives Barcelona numerical superiority in advanced areas.
Marc Bernal returns to partner Pedri, restoring midfield balance. But the real shift comes in attack, where Dani Olmo operates as a false nine.
Instead of a traditional striker, Barcelona would rely on fluid movement.
Olmo dropping deep could drag Atletico’s centre-backs out of position, creating space for Lamine Yamal and Raphinha to attack inside channels.
This system is less predictable and arguably better suited to chasing a big scoreline.

Marcus Rashford’s pace could be a serious threat for Atletico Madrid
If Flick truly wants to shock Atletico, this could be the statement XI.
Gerard Martin partners Cubarsi for defensive authority, while Cancelo starts to increase attacking output from full-back. In midfield, Olmo and Pedri combine creativity and control.
The major headline, though, would be Marcus Rashford leading the line, operating as a striker. This changes the dynamic completely.
His pace in behind would stretch Atletico’s defensive block and offer a direct threat that Barcelona otherwise lack without Lewandowski.
This line-up sacrifices some defensive security and high press, but maximises unpredictability and speed.
