Lazio face Inter Milan in the Coppa Italia final on 13 May, and despite Inter’s dominance this season there are clear reasons the Rome club can spring an upset. According to The Laziali, Inter have mathematically sealed the Scudetto with three rounds to spare and will start as clear favourites with the bookmakers.
The Aquile began the campaign poorly amid off-field turbulence, yet their form has surged since early March. They beat Sassuolo, AC Milan and Bologna in successive league rounds, and across their last 10 matches in all competitions have lost only once, to Fiorentina.
The injury picture has improved. Mattia Zaccagni and Nicolo Rovella have returned, with Rovella’s playmaking long missed, and Mario Gila is expected to be available in time to face Inter, who are among his suitors.
Tactically, Lazio often excel against front-foot opponents who leave space. Maurizio Sarri’s side have sharpened a counter-attacking blueprint, using it effectively against Juventus, Napoli, Bologna and Milan. Replicating it against the new champions would be the next step.
Inter are chasing a 10th Coppa Italia and the silver star that comes with it, plus domestic double bragging rights. Lazio’s stakes look higher, with Europa League qualification potentially shaping transfer plans, Claudio Lotito’s standing among supporters and perhaps Sarri’s future. Whether that extra edge proves decisive remains to be seen.
