Villarreal are using the long break to ready Juan Foyth and Santi Comesaña for Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu. Foyth is trending up, while Comesaña still needs time.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Foyth rejoined full training on Thursday. He worked as normal on Monday and Tuesday, then skipped Wednesday as a precaution before returning with the group.

He has been building back for weeks. He was in the squad against Levante but Iñigo Pérez did not use him. His last appearance was on 28 August at Alavés in Mendizorroza.

The break has allowed him to work without game pressure. He was initially called up by Argentina, then Lionel Scaloni released him to stay in Vila-real and continue his recovery.

The plan has been gradual, with mixed loads and caution. Wednesday’s rest formed part of that, and his return a day later suggests he remains on schedule.

If progress holds next week, he could be available at Real Madrid. How sharp he is after weeks out, and what role Iñigo Pérez gives him, remain to be seen.

Comesaña is on a different timeline. He continues to train alone after a right ankle sprain suffered against Málaga, and left that match following a heavy challenge that brought a red card. His Bernabéu involvement depends on how he progresses and when he rejoins the group.
