Matters moved quickly yesterday after the two clubs reached an agreement, with the player rapidly completing his medicals and reaching an agreement with the Seville-based club.

Fran Garcia’s farewell letter

Taking to his Instagram after his official departure from the club, the Spanish full-back penned an emotional letter to all the fans on every aspect of his Real Madrid stint.

“The time has come to say goodbye to one of the most beautiful chapters of my life,” he began, summing up everything at the beginning.

“Everything has a beginning and an end, and my beginning started at 11 years old when I first set foot in Real Madrid’s training complex, embarking on a wonderful journey of development both as a person and as a footballer,” he added.

Showing gratitude to everyone who helped him along the way, Garcia named some key individuals and collectively showed gratitude to the rest.

“I want to thank all the people and professionals who have been part of this beautiful journey, and of course, thank President Florentino Pérez and José Ángel Sánchez for giving me the opportunity to fulfill my childhood dream.”

“I also want to thank the club, my teammates, coaches, staff, doctors, physiotherapists, kit men, cleaning staff, residence staff, and all those people I may be forgetting to mention, who are no less important in making this dream a reality.”

The player then penned how playing for Real Madrid was career-defining and the values he learnt along the way.

“You instilled in me values that I will always carry with me, especially never giving up and fighting until the very end.”

“And that is what I have done for this shirt: fight until the very end, from the first day I wore it until the very last,” he added.

Finally, the player referenced and celebrated the titles he has won with Los Blancos and bid farewell to the club and all supporters.

“I’ve won important titles with the club, but the greatest of all is the affection of all Madrid fans from the first day I arrived.”

“I will always carry you in my heart. Thank you so much for everything, and see you soon,” he added.

A revamped left-back department

Before Garcia’s departure, Real Madrid had four players at left-back and thus a clear excess of resources in the department. Needless to say, a sale was non-negotiable.

There was some doubt around which of Fran Garcia, Ferland Mendy and Alvaro Carreras would leave, but that is now a dilemma of the past.

Heading into the new season, Jose Mourinho will have two world-class players at left-back and he could not ask for a better set of players.

Marc Cucurella, the club’s new signing, is undoubtedly expected to be the starting left-back in the team and Alvaro Carreras will serve as his superstar deputy.

The competition between the two, needless to say, will push each other to be at their best levels.
