Didier Deschamps has responded to criticism from PSG after two of their star men were injured playing for his France side.

Both Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue suffered muscle injuries in France’s World Cup qualifying win over Ukraine.

The duo are now set for spells on the sidelines, with PSG releasing a statement hitting out at the France national team afterwards, claiming they had ignored their medical recommendations.

“Paris Saint-Germain, which provides year-round medical supervision for its players and possesses precise, detailed information, had already sent the Federation specific medical data, even before the start of the French team camp, regarding the workload the players could handle and the risk of injury,” PSG said in a statement.

“The club regrets that these medical recommendations were not taken into account by the France medical staff, as well as the complete lack of consultation or communication with its own medical teams.

“Paris Saint-Germain, while reaffirming its commitment to the national team’s mission and to the French squad — whose success is a fully shared objective — hopes these regrettable events will pave the way for a new, formal framework for medical coordination, ensuring systematic, documented, and reciprocal exchanges between club and national team medical staffs, as well as stricter precautionary measures when calling up and using players, especially those currently being treated for injuries.”

But in response, France boss Deschamps insists they acted in a proper way.

“What happened is what happened,” he said.

“I’m especially sad for Ousmane and Dez [Doué], for the injuries and because we’re losing two important players.

“We did things in a professional, progressive way, as we do with every player, taking into account their feelings.

“Unfortunately, it happened and it concerns two PSG players.

“PSG is not our opponent, never has been, even if we have interests that may diverge and that’s normal. Our only opponent is Iceland and that’s tomorrow.”
