France coach Didier Deschamps admits Milan star Theo Hernandez is ‘probably’ not at the same level as in the past as he plays too much.
Theo was not involved in France’s 3-1 win over Italy at San Siro on Sunday.
“He played the first game despite not being fully fit. He’s not at his best, so I rested him,” France coach Deschamps, a former Juventus midfielder, said in the mixed zone.

“Theo is an excellent player; even if this season, he’s probably not on the same level as in the past. He plays a lot, and it can happen.”
Theo has had highs and lows with Milan this season despite grabbing two goals and two assists in nine Serie A matches.
The France international is currently in talks to extend his contract with the Rossoneri and could become the highest-paid player in the team, joining Portugal international Rafael Leao.
Theo joined Milan from Real Madrid in a €22m deal in 2019 and has 31 goals and 41 assists in 226 appearances with the Rossoneri.
The France international won the 2021-22 Serie A title at San Siro.
He made his senior France debut in 2021 and has two goals in 36 international appearances with his national team.
