It perhaps should not come as a surprise, however, Didier Deschamps is considering starting Michael Olise (24) in the No.10 role as France prepare to face Iraq on Monday night, as per a report from RMC Sport.

In the final warm-up game against Northern Ireland (3-0) and then in the FIFA World Cup opener against Senegal (3-1), it was Ousmane Dembélé, who prefers to play more centrally, who played in the No.10 role in behind captain Kylian Mbappé.

However, with the Ballon d’Or winner occupying the position, France’s attack looked disjointed. At half-time against Senegal, Olise was brought into the centre, Dembélé was shifted out to the right, and to great effect.

The Bayern Munich forward linked up excellently with Mbappé, assisting him for Les Bleus’ first. On the tactical change, Deschamps said the following in a press conference attended by Get French Football News: “I made the change today because I thought it would help us link up better. He can play on both sides, but the more often he gets on the ball, the better. It created more danger, and Kylian was clinical for us.”

Deschamps is now considering keeping with Olise as the No.10 for France’s second group stage game.
