France’s 26 players, head coach Didier Deschamps, members of his staff and FFF president Philippe Diallo posed on Saturday in Boston wearing the shirts of their first clubs. It comes ahead of Tuesday’s 2026 World Cup opener against Senegal at 21:00.
The federation said the gesture paid tribute to amateur football, the foundation of their journeys. The match will be at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, and the squad produced similar photos at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and before Euro 2024.
Kylian Mbappé and William Saliba chose AS Bondy. Brothers Lucas and Theo Hernandez wore CF Rayo Majadahonda, in Spain.
Mike Maignan selected JS Villiers-le-Bel, Ibrahima Konaté picked Paris FC, and Michael Olise opted for Chelsea. He first played for Hayes & Yeading United, then Arsenal before Chelsea.
Deschamps held the Aviron Bayonnais shirt. In 2024 he called the shot symbolic, said it matters to remember where you come from, highlighted his start at Aviron Bayonnais, saying the club plays football, not only rugby, and that he was pleased to make this gesture.
