L'Équipe reports that France’s futsal team for persons of short stature will contest its first World Cup in Morocco from 20-30 November after leading French NBA agents stepped in to fund the trip.
At a disability awareness day in Dourdan, seven players under 1.45 m sharpened patterns to the Marseillaise and beat three local youth sides.
Coach Ramon Capella demanded rigour and tempo. Trialled in goal, attacker Biscotte impressed, with supporters hailing a clean sheet.
The breakthrough came on Canal+ show Clique, where, after hearing the budget was €5,000 short, Jérémy Medjana and Bouna Ndiaye offered to pay for travel and followed up the next day to arrange the transfer.
Captain Mohamed Lamyne, 30, a three-time French futsal handisport MVP, had walked away when the team withdrew from the 2023 World Cup in Argentina for lack of funds, but has returned to lead with voice and drive.
Founded by Ayena Adjido after witnessing a 2022 European event in Spain, the association relies on sponsors, donations and support from figures such as Paul de Saint-Sernin and Gradur. It is not yet recognised by the FFF.
For Julien Hamon, 32, the aim is to show that, whatever the disability, you can play your favourite sport and learn to back yourself.
The group will tackle Europe at an inaugural tournament in Dourdan before Morocco, and Capella said they are going there to win.
