France head into their semi-final with Spain carrying momentum, authority and the look of a side that know exactly how to win tournament football. Didier Deschamps has guided his team through Sweden, Paraguay and Morocco in the knockout rounds without conceding a goal, and that defensive steel has provided the perfect platform for a forward line brimming with class.
The biggest focus in the build-up has centred on France team news, particularly in midfield. Aurelien Tchouameni is back in training after his thigh problem, while Manu Kone is expected to be fit despite suffering a minor knee issue in the win over Morocco. Both remain in the frame, and the key call for Deschamps is who starts alongside Adrien Rabiot at the base of midfield.
Kylian Mbappe gave France a timely lift after taking a knock to his ankle against Morocco. The captain moved quickly to ease concerns, saying he was “completely fine”. That will settle any nerves, because France look a different proposition when Mbappe is leading the line with menace and purpose.

His goal in the last round underlined his ability to seize the biggest moments, while the chemistry around him has become one of the stories of the tournament. Michael Olise and Ousmane Dembele have formed a thrilling attacking unit with Mbappe, giving France pace, trickery and cutting edge in equal measure.
There was some concern when William Saliba and Dayot Upamecano missed training on Saturday, but both are expected to be available. Saliba was rested, while Upamecano completed an individual session, and neither absence is thought to be serious.
Lucas Digne and Jules Kounde look certain to continue at full-back, with Mike Maignan firmly established in goal. On the left, Desire Doue and Bradley Barcola have both had opportunities, although Doue may just have the edge if Deschamps sticks with the same attacking balance.
France are unlikely to make sweeping changes, even with Rayan Cherki, Maghnes Akliouche and Jean-Philippe Mateta offering depth from the bench.
Maignan, Kounde, Upamecano, Saliba, Digne, Rabiot, Kone, Dembele, Olise, Doue, Mbappe.
The semi-final kicks off at 8pm BST on Tuesday, July 14, at Dallas City Stadium, with France appearing ready to trust the formula that has taken them this far.
