Franco Mastantuono opens up on Real Madrid dream and early career challenges | OneFootball

The young forward Franco Mastantuono was one of the players whom Real Madrid signed during the last summer transfer window. After impressing a lot in his home country, the Argentine arrived at the Merengue club with a lot of expectations, especially because of the more than €60 million that the Spanish club paid for him when he was still only 18 years of age.

The start of his career in Spain was quite promising, as Xabi Alonso gave him a lot of opportunities to impress and cement a place in his starting eleven. However, the forward was unable to take full advantage of these opportunities, and his first season at Real Madrid turned out to be quite underwhelming.

There is no doubt that playing and shining for a side as big as Real Madrid was a very significant challenge, especially for a teenager. In fact, as SPORT has reported, Mastantuono appeared in an interview with TyC Sports, and commented on how his youth was different from that of most other youngsters of his age:

The Argentine’s desire was to be remembered as a great player, but he had other priorities as well:

“Although it would also be nice to be remembered as a player who won many titles and achieved many things… But I think that becomes secondary. I would like people to see me as a good person, a good teammate, and a good friend. That is more important to me than the sporting side itself.”

Although his immediate future at Real Madrid has come under some doubts, he was still dreaming of spending a long time at the Merengue club:

There is no doubt that this first season at Real Madrid, at the biggest football club in the world, and so far from home, was a difficult stage for Franco Mastantuono. However, it must also have been a very important learning experience, and hopefully, it will only go on to make the youngster an even better player and person.
