Freiburg have revived their move for Willy Gnonto, and a Leeds United exit now looks increasingly logical given his reduced role.
Florian Plettenberg reports that Freiburg are pushing again, with talks under way with Leeds and the player’s camp, and that Leeds are open to a sale or a loan with an obligation to buy, although the deal remains difficult.
Gnonto arrived from FC Zurich in 2022 and quickly stood out in a tough Premier League season, finishing with four goals and four assists in 28 appearances before relegation.
The aftermath was turbulent as he refused to play during the 2023 summer window amid uncertainty, then apologised to Daniel Farke and his team-mates to rebuild trust.
He answered on the pitch in the Championship, scoring nine goals and supplying three assists across 36 regular league games, helping promotion and earning a new contract to 2028.
Since the step back up, his involvement has shrunk to 419 Premier League minutes and four league starts, underlining a shift in status.
Leeds are open to a permanent sale, and Freiburg’s long-standing admiration makes a move plausible if terms can be agreed.
