The reform of French football governance remains off the National Assembly agenda.

According to L'Équipe, the bill was due to be examined on 18 May but was pushed back to allow completion of the military programming law. Fresh items were lined up on Tuesday for debate before the end of June, yet this text again missed out.

The proposal envisages dissolving the LFP in favour of a clubs company, alongside measures against piracy. In its current form, shaped by numerous amendments, it has raised concern among many clubs and the LFP.

A key flashpoint is the prospective shift of betting-related revenues from the LFP to the FFF, which would cost clubs about €12m per season.

Another contentious idea is a compulsory free-to-air match. Stakeholders argue this would depress the value of broadcast rights and could undermine forthcoming tenders, which have already struggled without such a rule.

The professional sector also objects to reducing its voting share within the FFF from 33% to 25%.

There are further worries about added complexity in future governance through new supporter-linked mechanisms.
