The end of El Clasico, which saw Real Madrid defeat Barcelona 2-1, was marred by clashes between both sets of players – and it all stemmed from an altercation between Dani Carvajal and Lamine Yamal.
Earlier in the week, it was reported that Carvajal intended to speak to his international teammate after he allegedly made comments about Real Madrid “robbing teams”. The Real Madrid captain did exactly that as soon as the full time whistle was blown at the Santiago Bernabeu, which led to a scuffle.
Of that incident, Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong hit out at Carvajal’s actions, while also defending Lamine Yamal (via MD).
“The reaction of the Real Madrid players was all very exaggerated. If you know Lamine and you think he doesn’t have to make these statements, you speak to him privately. Why make gestures on the pitch?
“Besides, it’s not that big of a deal. I didn’t hear Lamine saying that Real Madrid stole directly. Someone else in the Kings League table said it.”

The Dutch midfielder was also asked about Barcelona’s defeat in El Clasico, as he admitted that he and his teammates were not good enough in the Spanish capital.
“If you’re not sharp, they hit you on the counter and create danger. We need to create chances and improve. We competed, but it wasn’t enough. In the second half we controlled more, but we lacked to create danger and clear chances.”
The situation with Lamine Yamal is bound to drag on over the coming days, especially now that the Carvajal incident happened. Barcelona are determined to protect the 18-year-old in cases like this, and there is no doubt that he will have the fully backing of his teammates, coaching staff and club officials.
